What if I have never done yoga before, I am not flexible and I am not fit?
Yoga is for everybody and every body. My classes are suitable for all levels of experience, flexibility and fitness. A regular yoga practice will help you become more flexible and you will also enhance your strength and balance.
What if I have an injury or medical condition?
Please contact me via phone or email in advance of attending any classes so that we can discuss your needs. In most cases I will be able to make the relevant modifications for you, so that you can practice yoga safely and comfortably.
What do I need to wear when practicing yoga?
Wear loose and comfortable clothing that does not restrict your movement. As your body cools down during Savasana (relaxation practice) an extra warm layer of clothing may be needed to keep you warm.
Socks should be removed during asana practice to prevent slipping. You can put it back on again in Savasana.
It may be more comfortable to have long hair tied back.
Should I eat before a yoga class?
It is recommended to practice yoga on an empty stomach. It is suggested that you leave at least two hours between a large meal, and at least one hour between a light meal and your practice.
Bring water with you.
What do I need to practice yoga at home via Zoom?
You do not need any fancy equipment to practice yoga. But to add comfort to your practice I would suggest:
- a quiet space in your home
- comfy clothes
- a couple of cosy blankets
- a bolster or couple of pillows
- a yoga strap or a normal belt or tie
- an eye pillow or folded scarf
- yoga blocks or books
- yoga mat – although this is not needed as long as you are on a surface where you will not slip.
How do I attend a Zoom yoga class?
- Make sure you have the most up to date Zoom App on the device you plan to use.
- Click on Join a Meeting.
- Enter the Meeting ID and password when asked (this will change every week and will be sent to you when you register for a class).
- The online class will open 10 minutes before the class start time to say hi and to work through any technical difficulties so that the class can start promptly.
- Align your camera so I can see your yoga mat – long edge rather than head on if possible and if space allows.
- You can “PIN” my image, so that I am the only person on the screen.
- You will be muted during the class, but if necessary, please unmute yourself if you have any urgent questions.
- Please ensure that you have read the Online Class Disclaimer.
Why do I need to complete a New Client Form?
The reason for this is two fold:
Firstly so that I am aware of any past and present injuries or other factors which may affect your practice. This enables me to make the relevant modification for you and offer you alternative options to suit your body so that you can practice safely.
Secondly this is needed for insurance purposes.
It is entirely up to you what information you choose to share. The Privacy Policy will provide you with details of what happens to your information once you have shared it with Yoga Elephant.
How do I book and pay for a yoga class?
Classes can be booked via the classes page on the Yoga Elephant website.
Once you have registered for the class, details for payment will be sent to you. Payment can be done via cash in person, PayPal or Bank Transfer.
Please make the payment before the class starts.
If you are having financial difficulties, please do let me know and I will support you around this so that you can continue to still attend class.
What if I can no longer attend the practice?
Please let me know if you are no longer able to attend, so that I do not prepare a space for you or wait for you to arrive before starting the practice.
Cancellation policy for a class:
If you have paid for a class and is unable to attend, let me know 12 hours before the class and the payment can be transferred to book you onto another class. However if less notice is given, and I am not able to fill your reserved space full payment will be required. If the class is cancelled by me, you will be given a full refund.
Cancellation policy for a special event/workshop:
The practice fee is to be paid in advance to secure your space. The fee is non-refundable if you are no longer able to attend, unless I am able to fill your space. However, if I need to cancel the practice for any reason, you will receive a full refund.
What do I do if I need to fart in a yoga class?
It is extremely common to fart in a yoga class. Many yoga asanas (postures) massage the abdominal organs which triggers a release of gas. In addition, as the body becomes more relaxed it may also naturally release gas. If a fart escapes during class, simply ignore it. It has happened to all of us!
